Working with newly arrived, asylum seeking and refugee young people, and their families, we actively promote integration within the local community and celebrate diversity and difference.
The PYF Involved Programme has been developed to support newly arrived young people across Coventry. The design of the service has been informed and developed through our direct work with these cohorts, the local authority, schools and specialist agencies such as the Citizens Advice Bureau and Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre.
We try to ensure that identified young people have the right support mechanisms in place to be able to become active, positive and involved members of the community. We want to encourage equal opportunities to access mainstream services and reduce the numbers that are marginalised by their circumstances.
This programme looks to help young people become school, community and work ready, by instilling vital transferable social, emotional and lifestyle skills.
Positive Youth Foundation, through partnership with Coventry City Council’s Migration Team, are the youth delivery partner within the councils structured resettlement programme.
PYF work with young people aged 8-21 who have recently arrived in Coventry. The programme is primarily focussed on young people’s personal, social and emotional wellbeing. The delivery is facilitated by experienced youth workers, some of whom were once newly arrived young people themselves.
We engage them in community provision including sport, art, drop-in youth clubs and holiday programmes, which promote belonging through safe spaces to learn.
Running alongside integration provision we also offer the Involved Hub, aimed to work predominantly with those young people who are yet to start school. It is, however, also a great support mechanism whilst young people progress through mainstream schooling, or await a full timetable of provision. This offers basic English and Maths assessment and development whilst learning about how best to feel comfortable living their everyday lives in Coventry.
